I recently had the chance to visit Uluru—one of the most incredible places I’d highly recommend if you’re doing a placement or living in the Northern Territory 🇦🇺

What is Uluru?
Uluru is the world’s largest sandstone monolith located in the heart of Australia’s red desert—about 450 km from Alice Springs 🪨
It’s not just visually stunning, but also a sacred site for the Anangu people—the Traditional Owners of this land. You’ll find ancient stories, Aboriginal rock art, and culturally sensitive areas where photography is not allowed.
Why is Uluru special?
- Its base walk stretches an impressive 9.4 km❗
- The rock changes color depending on the sunlight ☀️
- During rare rains, small waterfalls cascade down its sides
- The sunrise and sunset viewing spots are absolutely breathtaking

Getting there from Alice Springs
I booked a 1-day tour from Alice Springs. We had to wake up at 4 am, and the round trip drive took 12 hours 😅 — but totally worth it! We got to walk around the base, hear Aboriginal stories from our guide, and enjoy a sunset BBQ dinner overlooking Uluru 🍖🌅
Tips from a real experience
- Don’t wait until you're older to visit—your knees will thank you 😆
- Bring snacks, water, and a jacket. There’s no WiFi or shops along the way
- Choose a tour company with great reviews and informative guides
- Respect cultural sites—no photos in restricted areas please
Tour cost
I booked during a government discount period and paid around $350 for the 1-day trip (available late this year to early next year) 🚌
If you ever get the chance to visit NT, don’t miss Uluru—it’s a true bucket list experience you should witness at least once in your life 🪨💛
