My Nursing Journey in Australia

A true story from a Thai student who transitioned from a Working Holiday visa to studying nursing at Flinders University 🇦🇺

Nursing student journey in Australia
From Working Holiday to Bachelor of Nursing at Flinders University

1. Starting with a Working Holiday Visa

I arrived in Australia on September 9, 2022, at 9:09 AM (yes, a lucky number 😄) with a Working Holiday Visa, ready to explore life in a new land.

2. Working, Saving, and Learning English

During my Working Holiday, I worked in restaurants and aged care, while also practicing English. I saved money with the goal of studying in the healthcare field.

3. Preparing for the English Test (PTE 65+)

I chose the PTE Academic test because it can be used for both university admissions and visa applications. After 3–4 months of preparation, I passed all sections with over 65 points—meeting the nursing program requirement.

4. Applying to University Through an Agent

I researched and contacted several Thai education agents in Australia. I went with one that was fast, honest, and informative. Then I submitted my documents to apply.

5. Receiving a Full Offer from Flinders University

I applied to just one program: Bachelor of Nursing (Graduate Entry) at Flinders University. Within a month, I received a full offer after completing steps like:

  • Translating academic transcripts and degrees
  • Finishing a bridging course or English support course
  • Submitting the full PTE results

6. Visa Change and Getting Ready for Uni

As my Working Holiday visa was ending, I switched to a Covid visa that allowed full-time work. During that period, I also took additional courses in aged care and disability to enhance my skills.
